Getting legal aid
The Clinic offices are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Subject to sufficient resources, the Clinic assists clients facing criminal charges and with most civil matters in the Court of Appeal, the High Court and most magistrates' courts (see Substantive eligibility).
We do not however handle conveyancing matters, large estates, prescriptive title applications (unless a waiver is approved by the directors), defamation actions or possession proceedings by a landlord.
A means test is used to establish eligibility for either free or subsidised legal aid services.
